BENEFITING: Boston Medical Center
FOR 100 DAYS, I’LL WEAR CRAZY HATS. I invite your support.
My name is Caroline Moore-Kochlacs. I am a PhD candidate in neuroscience at Boston University conducting research with MIT's Synthetic Neurobiology Group, housed between the MIT Media Lab and McGovern Institute for Brain Research. In January 2015, at age 32, I was diagnosed with metastatic breast cancer. For the past year, I have learned that day-to-day of life with cancer requires a lot of support beyond the medical diagnosis and treatments. I have been helped by having health insurance, family financial support, transportation to and from appointments, R&R activities, and much more. And I have been fortunate to be completely surrounded by love and support from family, friends, doctors, and Boston Medical Center.
Boston Medical Center (BMC) has been there for me and is also there for people who do not have the resources and support networks that carry me through this time.
I want to give back, so I am raising money for BMC’s Cancer Support Services. Cancer Support Services ensure that no patient goes untreated because of a lack of resources. They offer access to support groups and activities, alternative medical therapies, patient navigators, complementary services, and more. BMC serves a diverse population with diverse needs, and Cancer Support Services are available to everyone treated there. Learn more about these programs here.
My goal is to raise $20,000 to provide these essential non-medical services to people who need them.
WHAT YOU CAN DO!
1) Donate! Please, donate.
Each donation will ensure that I wear a crazy hat for a day. You can make your donation by clicking on the red “Donate” button at the top right of this page. The secure Crowdrise site will send your contribution directly to BMC. (Your donation is tax deductable. Your email receipt from Crowdrise meets the IRS requirements for a record of your donation.)
2) Send me a hat!
You may wonder, do I have enough hats? No, not yet. I have enough hats to start but will be collecting more. Here's an added bonus for you, as a donor: you can choose a hat. If you send me a hat, I'll wear it, within reason*.
*Within reason will be determined by the fine Mad Hatter Committee I've recruited, specifically, three troublemakers named Dad, Kellea, and Eric, and Mom to keep them in line.
Contact the Committee at hatonitcommittee-at-gmail-dot-com.
WHAT I'LL DO
Wear the crazy hats! Everyday! On the T, on the couch, at the office, at the park, in the chemo chair. Proof posted on Instagram (@carolinemk), Twitter (@caromk) and daily notes on Facebook (caromk, posted publically).
Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!
