Team Haulin' for Holly began after I was diagnosed (at age 32) with stage III ovarian cancer in October 2009. After surgeries, chemo, lots of prayers, and what feels like a long road to recovery I am nearly two years clean!
My awesome boss and his sweet wife heard about C-TREC and thus team Haulin' for Holly was born. In the two years that we've been a part of the event our team has nearly doubled in size - WOOT!
To say that I'm excited about C-TREC is an understatement. In our profile picture you may notice a few things, the first of which is that I'm bald - no big deal for me. What I notice is the pain in my face from bending down on my knees (thanks chemo), my swollen red face (that's the Taxol), and the reminder that at the first C-TREC event (when this picture was taken) I could not ride. I was way to weak and exhausted but I was most definitely there to greet "my riders" as they crossed the finish line! :-)
Last year was my first ride down with C-TREC and I distinctly remember the wind blowing through my hair which had grown back - awesome, awesome feeling. I also remember the tears in my eyes as I made that first pedal on my borrowed bike. I had come so far....
As our team makes it's way from Kingston, Tennessee I want to say thanks SO MUCH to those who put this event together and for the sweet town of Damascus for hosting us. We always have such a great time!
We each feel honored to help raise money for cancer research as we all know someone who has struggled with this dreadful disease. Getting to ride a bike down a mountain in such a beautiful setting is just a bonus :)
