BENEFITING: HAVEN WOMENS CENTER OF STANISLAUS
Domestic violence is the skeleton in the closet that no one wants to talk about. "It will never happen to me" and "It won't happen again" are normal thoughts for victims of domestic violence. Most times the victim views the abuser as a person they love, cherish and need to protect. Violence is violence. Everyone is susceptible to domestic violence regardless of age, race, sexual identity, or social status.
Many die before they are able to find their voice against domestic violence; I am one of the lucky ones. Seventeen years ago Haven Women's Center of Stanislaus stepped into my life and helped me save the lives of my children and myelf, finally breaking free from years of abuse by my ex husband. Today I am a survivor, no longer a victim frightened to share my story with those who need to hear it.
