BENEFITING: American Foundation for Suicide Prevention
EVENT DATE: Nov 05, 2016
My name is Thomas Havener and I am runner the tough mudder half race in North Carolina on November 5th, 2016 and I am running for the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention. I have been personally affected by suicide as I have had numerous friends commit suicide for different reasons (drugs, bullying, depression). I myself have struggled with depression and have contemplated suicide as an alternative to facing tough decisions and my own internal pains. I still cannot wrap my head around the causes why someone would not see themselves as an important factor in this world as God created each of us with different attributes and abilities. Mankind does not have copies or clones so we need to see each life as a miracle and something special. I always have wondered what could I have done better as a friend, what did I miss? To honor their memories I wish to promote awareness of the problems and signs that can signal someone's struggle with life's problems and their depression. If we put down the phones and talked with our friends and people alike using words instead of emoji's we would have a constant feeling of personal connections instead of friendships that are fake and transparent. Be apart of my struggle and tell people that there is hope, your life matters because someone is going to need your special abilities. Don't put out the fire before you allow your light to change the world.
