BENEFITING: HOSPITAL DE LA FAMILIA FOUNDATION
EVENT DATE: May 06, 2013
Dear Friends and Family,
As many of you know, I volunteer two weeks of my time and expertise every year as part of a medical team that provides advanced surgery and medical therapies to poor residents of the remotest parts of Guatemala. I've been visiting for years now and I believe so deeply in this work that I even pay for my own trip expenses. It really lights my fire.
We treat burn scars which restrict a patient's ability to work and play. We return sight to hundreds of cataract patients each trip, enabling parents and grandparents to read to their children again. I've seen firsthand how a minor surgical procedure can correct a life long deformity, and relieve the stigma attached to it.
This year, I wanted to try something new, and give my friends and family the opportunity to directly impact the lives of so many great people with acute needs but who lack access to the kinds of health services that we all take for granted.
So here I am, asking for your support as I prepare for my upcoming trip. I'm trying to raise $3000 from 30 friends. That's $100 per person. In this community, $3000 can, for example, return sight to 90 people! How much medical care do you think that would buy you in America?
