BENEFITING: Huntington's Disease Society of America, Inc.
EVENT DATE: Nov 06, 2016
Welcome to my fundraiser page! I am beyond excited and blessed to be a part of the HDSA NYC Marathon Team.
Huntington’s disease is a fatal genetic disorder that causes the progressive breakdown of nerve cells in the brain. It deteriorates a person’s physical and mental abilities over time and it has no cure. HD is known as the quintessential family disease because every child of a parent with HD has a 50/50 chance of carrying the faulty gene. Many describe the symptoms of HD as having ALS, Parkinson’s and Alzheimer’s – simultaneously.
My mother was diagnosed with this horrible disease about 11 years ago. My husband and I are her primary caregivers. The hardest part about this disease, is slowly watching your loved one fade away. This disease robs the individual of absolutely everything they are and of what they can do. A cure needs to be found.
My mom is my world and she is a fighter. She is my hero and I admire her so much. She has taken on this disease with full force and with a postive uplifting attitude. I love her so much and am so honored to run for her.
I am running for my mom, myself and for everyone else who is affected by this disease.
Please do not think you have to donate a lot. Every dollar counts. Please share my page to help me raise not only funds, but also awareness :)
I appreciate everyone from the bottom of my heart who is taking the time to read this. Thank you, thank you, thank you!
