THE STORY:

One of the oldest clubs in the islands, Healani Canoe Club was founded in 1890. The club has flourished for so many years due to the energy and enthusiasm of our members, the love we all share for outrigger canoe paddling, and the commitment we make to preserving this part of our Hawaiian culture.

Healani Canoe Club was one of only 2 womens crews that participated in the first unofficial crossing of the Kaiwi Channel in 1975. The result of this brave endeavor was the annual Na Wahine O Ke Kai. Every year, Healani strives to enter at least one women’s crew in this 40 mile race from Molokai to Oahu in order to perpetuate the sport of canoe paddling. With each Kaiwi Channel crossing, the experience and commraderie that participants’ share with one another has been priceless.

Although we truly recognize the state of Hawaii’s economy at this time is far from stable, we humbly ask for a monetary donation to help our women cross the Kaiwi Channel. Your donation for the 2012 Na Wahine O Ke Kai will be greatly appreciated.

Please note that Healani Canoe Club is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization. Therefore, your donations are fully deductible for tax purposes. Our federal ID number is 99-0200160.
