BENEFITING: KGWALE LE MOLLO US
EVENT DATE: Oct 26, 2013
Friends and Family:
I'm running the Healdsburg Half Marathon through beautiful wine country on behalf of the amazing KLM Foundation, a non-profit organization that provides scholarship and leadership development opportunities to underprivileged kids in rural South Africa.
Just a little more about the KLM Foundation. KLM strives to identify and sponsor talented young students from rural villages – students who have all the potential in the world and no educational opportunities to nurture and grow their ability. Public schools in South Africa’s rural villages are relics of the apartheid-era. South Africa is a country known for profound economic disparities – the bright lights of Johannesburg and Cape Town might as well be a world away. Young people from rural villages have no access to a real education, no prospects for a meaningful career, and no role models and support systems to help them to break out of the cycle of poverty. Only 1 in 5 high school graduates in South Africa qualify for a 4-year university education; even fewer actually enroll. In rural areas, the statistics are even worse.
That’s why I support KLM. They find exceptionally smart and talented kids and provide them with the educational opportunity of lifetime, breaking the cycle of poverty one deserving student at a time.
In support of my half-marathon, I’m asking for your help – Your donation of $10, $25, $50 or $100 will help me to reach my goal. 100% of donations raised in this campaign will go directly to support “KLM Kids” – no overhead, no administrative expenses.
