Healers and peacebuilders travel to Nicaragua
Organized by: Livia Olvera
Healers and peacebuilders travel to Nicaragua February 18th- 28th A team of 6 healers will travel to Nicaragua from Maryland and México for 10 days in February. The group will learn about the country and its history, practice the ministry of presence and lead two healing -peace building retreats. Staff of the NGO´s partners of ProNica, a Quaker funded 25year old organizacion, (see http://www.pronica.org) are invited to participate in the retreats free of charge. The workshops include community building, trauma healing awareness and hands on healing. About 60 people participated in the two previous workshops in August 2015– one in Managua and the other near Matagalpa in the mountains. Repairing the damage and building resiliency among those working for social justice is essential for peace building anywhere. It’s especially important in Nicaragua where people have been buffeted by wars, poverty, earthquakes and storms for many generations. Those who labor on the front-lines are invaluable in transforming the scars of multiple traumas into positive change for individuals and communities. Their work with marginalized people, street children and victims of violence is honorable – and stressful. Our workshops/ retreats are offerings to help keep the leadership strong of body, mind and spirit. So their organizations can continue their amazing work. The team is led by Bette Rainbow Hoover, a healer, peace builder and workshop facilitator, the other members are Hannah Gresser, Selena Reames, Melanie Ricuarte, Sue Silver and Livia Olvera (most asociated to Sandy Spring Friends Meeting and Quaker practice). Their gifts include yoga, energy healing, reflexology, deep listening, art therapy, body awareness and expression, and much more. In these 10 days we will: • share the basics of leading peace circles • practice holding space so healing of ourselves and others can happen • share some healing practices • seek ways to use circles to heal the traumas of our wounded world I am very commited to sharing my gifts and experience with the people of Nicaragua, learning from their resilence, their history, the work they do in their communties and be part of a interntional peace and healing effort for all of us. Your support will make it possible for me to travel and for us as a group to sponsor the organizations staff to attend the retreats. It will be a profund experience of love.
