Healing 4 Heroes helps veterans dealing with PTSD, Traumatic Brain Injury and other unseen wounds of war by providing then with trained, certified paychiatric service dogs AT NO CHARGE TO VETERANS! We have trained and placed over 80 dogs and we currently have more than 90 applicants waiting. All dogs are matched to the veteran.. Dogs are trained by a certified psychiaric dog trainer, along with the veteran. The average cost to train a dog is $6,000. H4H relies on donations, fund raisers and great events like this Crowdrise Challenge so we can continue to provide the dogs at no charge. The VA does not fund service dogs, but the need is great and growing each day. PTSD can debilitate a veteran, or anyone suffering this indescribable affliction. Trained psychiatric service dogs help sufferers cope in many ways such as reminding them to take their meds, helping them to come out of a fugue, visually sweeping a room as they enter, reminding them to eat, to even get out of bed. They also provide the veteran with a reassuring sense of security when encountering a crowd or experiencing loud noises - all danger signals to a veteran, Things that civilians have most likely not experienced or completely understand. Our goal is to raise enough to train at least 2 dogs!
Here is how your donation will help each veteran and their dog.
- Temperment testing
- Veterinary visits, vaccinations, spay/neuter
- Dog food
- Service vest for the dog
