Heals on Wheels: Keep the Wheels Turning for PlettAid
Organized by: Heals on Wheels
EVENT DATE Aug 14, 2015
Access to medical treatment is a critical need for millions around the world
Increasing health care accessibility through the support of mobile health care projects globally
Kurland and Plettenberg Bay, South Africa: Kurland is a community of 3,6001 in Western Cape. The village has high rates of tuberculosis and other diseases, and very little access to the medical care that people need. There is only one clinic in the village, and it is open for limited hours. Many are unable to access medical care when they need it. Plettenberg Bay, near Kurland, shares many of the same health and accessibility issues. The PlettAid Foundation, in Plettenberg Bay, works in Plettenberg Bay, Kurland, and the surrounding communities.
"In Kurland village, it was a whole new world opened up to my eyes. Poverty and severe living conditions flooded the community. Although life seemed heartbreaking for them it never stopped the people of Kurland from seeking the good out of the little things they had. The people of Kurland were always happy and the most amazing people you will ever meet."
-Erik Carneal, Heals on Wheels Team Member
Heals on Wheels is working with mobile health care projects to increase access to medical care around the globe. Currently, our efforts are with PlettAid Foundation, which serves the community of Plettenberg Bay, Kurland, and the surrounding communities.
Why Mobile Health Care
Heals on Wheels believes that mobile health projects are the best way to extend medical care to the people who need it the most. For these people, mobile health care is easier, more efficient, and cheaper. This makes mobile health projects vital to the communities that they serve. Through mobile clinics, home visitation, and other services, mobile health care is truly crucial to our global community, and can change the lives of so many around the world.
