BENEFITING: Richmond Global Health Alliance
Pampas Grande is a remote mountain community in the Peruvian Andes. 6 hours from the nearest city, at an altitude of 12,500 feet, it's people are hard-working and resourceful, but are isolated geographically and by poverty. The government health outpost there provides excellent basic services, but the people still often have limited access to medications, medical supplies, and care.
Richmond Health Global Alliance (RGHA) first worked with the Pampas Grande community in 2011, and will continue our mission there this June/July by conducting free clinics and working on public health projects. Our US team of professionals includes six physicians, one pharmacist, eight graduate students, and five undergraduate students working alongside Peruvian physicians, dentists, and medical students. Again this year, we are excited to offer the people of Pampas Grande the opportunity to receive Physical Therapy services, especially to help with the chronic low back pain that comes from their long hours of hard work.
To support those services, our pharmacy will include a broad range of medications. From treatment of simple infections with antibiotics, to management of chronic illnesses, our team will provide free medications on site, and we hope to be able to refill those prescriptions throughout the year. Our efforts will continue to focus on supporting the community and its medical infrastructure by engaging directly with local and higher-level leadership.
Our goal is to create a healthier, more self-sufficient community that identifies its own needs and has the support and resources to achieve its goals.
All money raised supports these efforts- directly benefiting the community of Pampas Grande.
RGHA is a 501(c)3 non-profit corporation.
