I joined HealthStart because it's mission aligned with my passion, which is to teach this generation of children how to have a HealthSpan (the portion of our life-span lived without significant disease) that is longer than their parents. Since 1900, human life-span has more than doubled from 30 to 67, with nearly 25 years of this increase due to public health advnaces. But, in the year 2000, children were projected, for the first time in 100 years, to have lifespans shorter than their parents. Worse, their healthspan would drop much lower than their paretns, as diabetes and obesity decimated their health earlier. Just as the first quantum leap in the life-span of humans came from publich health education, the next will also emanate from health education on nutrition, fitness, and the integral role each of us has in keeping our planet healthy too.
HealthStart provides the blueprints for creating healthier communities through children’s science-based health education. Pleae help us help our children live the healthiest lives they can. Rick Lusk
