Woodland Park Academy is a small school near Flint, MI. As the students were heavily impacted by the lead in the water we have been focusing on healthy lifestyles to counteract the effects of the lead. My students have held recycling campaigns for all of their plastic water bottles (we collected over 100,000 bottles) and have educated the community on the importance of recycling for a healthier earth. Now, we are looking to start a school garden to send students home with fresh fruits and vegetables to eat on the weekends and school breaks to improve their quality of life. Over time we hope that our garden will become large enough to start selling any excess at our local Farmers Market and provide scholarships for our students.
