The Lambda Chi Alpha fraternity Chapter at the University of Wyoming has paired up with a non profit organization known as Healthy Pokes. Healthy Pokes is a program geared towards helping at risk elementary aged children by helping them improve in the area's of physical fitness, nutrition, and state of well being. The children are paired up with a college student within the physical education, health education, and nutrition departments at the University of Wyoming, to act as a mentor and help the members of Healthy Pokes at the Healthy Pokes sessions, and at their elementary schools in class.
It came to our attention that a majority of these children cannot afford to play on organized sports teams due to financial constraints. It is our goal to raise money to allow for these children to be able to play on the organized sports teams within the community.
Children should not be deprived of the opportunity to play team sports growing up. Sports allow for children to learn critical life skills and lessons. These vary from teamwork, responsibility, leadership, setting and reaching goals, building character, and most of all – sportsmanship. Healthy Pokes teaches these children about physical fitness, and how to handle certain emotions. The children can then apply what they learned from the program to help them to be successful on an organized sports team.
If you would like to donate to the Healthy Pokes program to allow for these children to particpate on organized sports teams within the community please follow the instructions below! Thanks!!
