BENEFITING: NATIONAL CHILD PROTECTION TRAINING CENTER
This Halloween, the National Child Protection Training Center (NCPTC) and our partners (the Jacob Wetterling Resource Center and Center for Effective Discipline) distributed 1500 tote bags to children around the Twin Cities. The bags included Halloween safety tips and Halloween-themed activities. More importantly, however, they included information about how to keep kids safe, especially when they need to be disciplined. We were lucky to have GREAT volunteers to help us assemble the bags this year - so we just need more funds so we can give out MORE bags.
Our goal is not only to help kids have fun, but also to help educate parents on ways to discipline children without using physical force. We also want to encourage parents to hold "Family Safety Nights" where they can talk to children about every kind of safety issue whether it be fire safety, personal safety or internet safety. We provide resources in the bags and on our website about how to have those conversations and what to say.
We are committed to ending child abuse, but a large part of ending child abuse is preventing it before it begins. Often times, parents simply do not have easy access to the help they need to educate their children. We want to put the material in their hands. This Valentine's day, we are hoping to reach even more children around the Twin Cities. Please join us in the fight to keep kids safe.
