Here are some facts:
*Tooth decay is the most common chronic childhood disease resulting in 51 million lost school hours each year
*1 one out of 3 Orange County children have untreated tooth decay

*Since our inception, the average age of children at their first visit to the dentist has dropped from 5 years to 2 years
Sedation Program: Healthy Smiles is a leading provider of sedation services, treating children at the Garden Grove Smile Center and at CHOC Children’s Hospital. Sedation is often necessary for children with special needs, children that require significant restorative work, and children with increased anxiety. Sedation can help increase cooperation and prevent injury by helping children remain still around dental instruments.
Teledentistry: Our Smiles X-Press program is the biggest countywide teledentistry pilot in the nation. Using state-of- the-art technology, a specially trained dental hygienist and dental assistant screen children, take x-rays, and provide preventative services in a classroom setting. A dentist reviews the data offsite and creates a treatment plan. This goes a long way in combatting traditional barriers to care—such as transportation and parent work schedules.
Smile Mobiles: The Smile Mobiles are two-chair dental facilities “on wheels”. They’ve allowed Healthy Smiles to greatly expand pediatric dental services directly into underserved neighborhoods throughout Orange County. The Smile Mobiles visit approximately 110 public schools and over 500 community sites throughout Orange County.
