BENEFITING: Iraq And Afghanistan Veterans Of America Inc
On June 2, 2013 I am going to embark on an adventure I've dreamed of for years- the Comrades Marathon in South Africa.
The Comrades is sometimes called the 'World's Greatest Footrace'- and for good reason. It is 56 miles long and runs 'staunchly' (as the locals put it) uphill from Durban to Pietermaritzburg. Ouch.
The race was first run in 1921, and was conceived by a South African WWI veteran who wanted to honor the sacrifice and suffering of his comrades. The race was and remains a metaphor for the suffering and sacrifice of those who fight- our military men and women.
It is an honor and a thrill to run in this storied race, but I am hoping for it to be something more. As I run, I want to honor our men and women in uniform and I hope you'll help me.
I've chosen Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans of America (IAVA) as the best vehicle to accomplish my goal. IAVA is a 4-Star ranked charity on Charity Navigator, and provides a variety of health, education, employment and other support services to the veterans of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. They are well-run, transparent and effective.
If you've ever wanted to do something more for our military men and women take a couple of minutes and join me in this effort. Anything you give will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks for your support and if I live, I'll send you pics!
