BENEFITING: CHILDREN'S HEMIPLEGIA AND STROKE ASSN.
This is our 4th concert to raise money for CHASA and to raise awareness about pediatric stroke. What is pediatric stroke? - A stroke that can happen to children, babies, and unborn babies. Stroke happens in about 1 in 4,000 live births. The risk of stroke from birth through age 18 is almost 11 in 100,000 children per year. Strokes are slightly more common in children under age 2. Boys and African-American children are at a higher risk for stroke than other groups. (www.stroke.org) Did you know that children, babies, and unborn babies could have strokes? - If your answer is no, neither did I or my husband. Our son, Maxwell now 5, was diagnosed 24 hours after he was born with a massive stroke on the left side of his brain. We were lucky because many parents don't find out until 6 month or so and some children don't make it. Help us raise $3,000 for an organization called CHASA. They help parents and children who are stroke survivors. They help provide information on raising children with strokes to scholarships for camps/colleges. They also help parents pay for orthotics when some insurance companies don't. CHASA provides information on children's IEPs, one handed activities and so much more. CHASA has been for great for our families and this is our way of giving back.
