Hello All, With heavy hearts, we regret to inform you that Daisha lost her battle  with HLHS and has transitioned.  We know that to be absent See More

THE STORY:

Hello,

Let's begin by introducing you to the beautiful, bright and bubbly girl you see in the photo.  Her name is Daisha!  Though you can't tell from the picture, Daisha was born with a rare condition known as Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome (HLHS).  She also suffers from other health complications which include heterotaxy and Polysplenia.  HLHS is a disease that is diagnosed before birth, but there are currently no preventions for this disease.  The only way to treat the disease is through a three-stage surgical procedure.  Daisha successfully completed two of her three procedures, one at 3 days old and another at 3 months old.  She passed with flying colors and was scheduled for the third (and final) procedure in October 2016 at 2 years of age.

So you may wonder: How did we come to know Daisha and why are we sharing her story?

We were introduced to Daisha in August at our daycare facility where her mother is an employee. Daisha attended a parent day with her mom and after interacting with her, we all loved how sweet and intelligent she was.  After hearing her story, we asked for her mother's permission to share it with the world in hopes that it may provide education for other people experiencing this rare disease and also to provide financial relief for her family during this very tough time.

After meeting Daisha, we regularly enquired about her surgery prep.  So when the day came, we all eagerly awaited news.  We learned that Daisha did well during her surgery, however; post-surgery she encountered a major complication which sent her into cardiac arrest.  As a result of the cardiac arrest, on top of Daisha's already complicated health history, she suffered severe brain damage. There was fear that she would be pronounced brain dead and removed from ventilation.

Despite the initial prognosis, all was not lost!  Every 12 hours tests were performed to for Daisha's breathing and each time she was able to breathe a little on her own.  Although the breaths are small, they are a sign that there is still life and she is still with us!

Since her mom agreed to share her story, people all over the country began praying for Daisha and the prayers are working. But we know that faith without works is dead, so we need help from everyone to provide some financial support for her family during this time.

Daisha's mom happens to be one of the best infant teachers we know. Her faith is exercised daily as she arrives to help raise our children while her own child suffers from these serious complications.  And she does it all to ensure that her daughter can receive the proper medical coverage and care she deserves. She is the epitome of faith, sacrifice and hard work!

Our prayer is that Daisha's heart of gold is able to function fully in concert with her other organs and that she is able to make a full recovery!! We pray also that you join us in this mission and contribute even the smallest amount.  Every dollar counts!!!!

Thank you for reading this and for considering Daisha in your prayers!
