BENEFITING: Not For Sale Fund
The HeART Show is a collaboration of the arts in order to raise money for a human rights cause. Last year we raised over 1000 dollars for the American Refugee Committee and we hope to expand greatly this year and are raising money for an organization called Not For Sale. This organization focuses on Human Trafficking which is a growing problem, particularly in Minnesota. It is estimated that 8,000-12,000 people are trafficked every day in Minnesota and it is has been further estimated that there is more slavery in the world today than there was at the time of the emancipation proclamation.
Last year the show featured 12 visual artists from both the United States and abroad, 9 musicians, a dance troupe, and speakers from the Holocaust, the conflict in Ethiopia, and a representative from the Center for Victims of Torture. From the placement of the musicians in between speakers and the music they played to the art hanging on the walls, the event was curated in its entirety to create both awareness and an atmosphere of hope.
This year there will be 28 musicians, 9 visual artists, a dance troupe, and speakers from three local human rights organizations. Going forward we greatly hope to build upon this and expand the movement of heART that made last year's event such a success.
This event will be happening on Friday, April 13th at the Fallout Arts Co-op and I hope you will join us for another great HeART Show!
