BENEFITING: DAYS FOR GIRLS INTERNATIONAL
EVENT DATE: Sep 13, 2014
On September 13, 2014 I will be stand up paddling 33 miles around Lake Washington (the second largest lake in Washington State). I will remain on the board the entire time. This journey will take me approximately 14 hours depending on weather conditions. I am by no means a pro at stand up paddling, it it just something I really enjoy doing. I have never paddled more than 15 miles in a day so it will be a challenge for sure. But I love a good challenge! I will be starting and finishing at Magnusen Park in Seattle, WA. I will be finishing somewhere between 4 and 6pm. I will be going along the permimeter so you can find me at various beaches along the way. If you are interested you can learn more about my trip to Mali and what I will be doing there at https://www.facebook.com/Wecameheretolive or www.daysforgirls.org or email me at firstname.lastname@example.org
For every donation of $333 or more I will add a mile to my distance. Donations of $100 or more I will add .33 miles!
(donation must be received before Sept 12th so I can plan that in)
A donation of $1/mile can rally help!
That's only $33 (just 36 cents per day that I will be in Africa)
Of course you are welcome to donate more or less than $33, every dollar helps!
The funds raised go directly to Days for Girls International, a 501c3 organization and will help with travel expenses and support (translator, transportation) in country for the 3 months, the cost of bringing kits, and will help to build and expand the Malian Sewing and Health Enterprise. If we are able to raise enough money we will be able to purchase sewing machines and supplies to help women start small businesses! You can help bring dignity and support to girls and women in Mali.
At the end of October I will be traveling to Mali, West Africa to help Days for Girls and the Ouelessebougou Alliance set up a SHE (Sewing and Health Enterprise). I will remain in Mali for 3 months working with local communities.
Days for Girls works to help girls stay in school and retain dignity by empowering individuals and communities to have access to quality sustainable feminine hygiene, while also providing self-defense and health training to those who would otherwise go without.
Thank you so much for your support!
DAYS FOR GIRLS INTERNATIONAL wrote:
Every girl deserves dignity. Every girl deserves health. Every girl deserves an education. Throughout the world, something simple too often stands between a girl and a free, productive, and healthy life. Through sustainable feminine hygiene solutions, Days for Girls is restoring opportunity to girls who have grown up believing there is something embarrassing or taboo about menstruation. DfG reverses these cycles of belief through products and education that remind girls and women they are beautiful, powerful, and worthy of care.
In the last five years, Days for Girls has provided hygiene solutions to women and girls in over 75 nations. In the past year alone, it has grown from 65 Chapters to over 220 Chapters of passionate, committed volunteers that make and distribute hygiene kits. This fundraiser supports the exponential growth of Days for Girls Chapters, who ensure that women and girls everywhere no longer go without.
