BENEFITING: Corazones Con Esperanza Foundation
The ongoing mission of Hearts with Hope (Corazones Con Esperanza) since 1994 is to provide medical, dental and humanitarian assistance to children with congenital heart disease (CHD) in the undeserved global community.
Pediatric Cardiologist, Dr. Juan Alejos founded the Hearts With Hope Foundation in 1994 at Mattel Children’s Hospital, UCLA. The primary goal of the foundation is to instruct local medical personnel, in the underserved global community, in the treatment and care of children with congenital heart diseases, as well as providing financial, educational and emotional support to their families. Hearts With Hope Foundation is staffed by volunteer physicians, allied health personnel and community members with extensive experience in the treatment and care of children with congenital heart disease.
The foundation works in conjunction with local children’s hospitals, which are often severely understaffed, limited in supplies, and unable to provide adequate facilities for the overall population. Medical and humanitarian supplies are donated by physicians, UCLA Medical Center, international corporations and community volunteers.
Dr. Alejos and his team have a 'One World' view on medical care and a strong interprofessional team approach to the implementation of their mission. It is this level of care and collaboration in the underserved global communities that creates a substrate for building sustainability.
