When we first found Monroe, we had just left a home visit in West Monroe, LA and were headed back home to Arkansas. Right as were on the fringes of the city, Aisha (one our foster moms), said she thought she saw a pregnant pittie a block away from the road about to go behind the Dollar General. I quickly doubled back and there she was!
Not in the greatest neighborhood, heavily pregnant, and tired..It took about 5 minutes to lure her close enough to get a slip lead on her. Once we did, we lifted her into the car and she rode the whole way back to Arkansas calmly and quietly in the back seat.
Once we got Monroe in to see the vet, we found that she was heartworm positive and had an extreme uterine infection, called pyometra. Her infection was so extensive that she had multiple puppies that had passed away inside her. The vet told us that if she hadn't come in to be spayed, that she more than likely would've become septic and passed away on her own.
Since that day, Monroe has learned to relish love and affection. She's a very low-key, relaxed little lady who gets along well with all her foster brothers and sisters (canine and feline, alike).
Rock City Rescue has taken in several dogs recently that are heartworm positive besides Monroe, and there are not enough funds to treat all of them unfortunately. But, we're not giving up on Monroe! We still want to get this sweet girl heartworm treatment, which is why we're asking generous donors like you to please contribute to Monroe's heartworm treatment fund. Once she is heartworm negative, she'll be available for adoption and will be the perfect best friend. But first we need to raise the funds for her treatment so he can have a chance at a healthy life.
If you would like to learn more about Rock City Rescue, please visit their website (www.rockcityrescue.org) or their Facebook page (www.facebook.com/rockcityrescue)! Donations towards the care expenses of their other dogs can also be made here. Rock City Rescue's 501(c)3 tax exempt nonprofit status is pending.
All of the money raised through this fundraiser will go directly towards Rock City Rescue to pay for Monroe's medical expenses. Thank you for your generosity!
