August 15th, 2016, My son Ashe was born at 24 weeks.
His pregnancy was turbulent and very complicated. He was born at SHC and as many people dont know, SHC unless in emergent situations they do not deliver babies this premature, on top of his severe prematurity, He was born moments after we arrived at L&D. He was swiftly taken away to the NICU and I was left to be admitted after delivery. We were then transferred to FMC where he experianced nearly a month of constant complications and life altering situations, we were then transferred to ACH where life started to settle in, We knew what we were facing and had a long term plan, after two months we discussed him being transferred back to SHC to be closer to home in preperation of being discharged.
The devistating fact is he never made it back to SHC, and he never got to come home.
The increadible work that the careproviders at all three facilities gave me three months with my son, his heartbreaking loss as driven me to bring awareness not only to the difficulties of prematurity but also to what families face, I only hope that other families get to have those moments with their children.
The care we received In three of the Calgary NICU's during his very short life was remarkable. In any small way my family and I can,0 we want to give back as much as we can.
Thank you for taking the time to read, and donate if you can.
