BENEFITING: National Fragile X Foundation
EVENT DATE: Oct 11, 2014
Oliver and Charles (Chaliver for short) are my only two boys. They love to run, ride their bikes, go to school w all their friends, join mom and dad for date night and travel to Grandma's house in Kansas City. They both are affected with Fragile X Syndrome. This causes them to have extra challenges that most of us will never experience.
Fragile X is the most common inherited cause of autism and intellectual disabilities worldwide. Yes, you read that right. This is genetic. 1 in 260 women are carriers and 1 in 800 Men are carriers. Most never realize they carry this gene untill their child is diagnosed. Fragile X scientists' have discovered a brain pathway which is defective in Fragile X and implicated in Autism. Investigational new drugs which target this pathway are being tested in clinics worldwide.
