BENEFITING: Austin Dog Alliance
I will turn 40 on Saturday August 5th. I want to do something meaningful (and fun too) for my birthday. I've gotten pretty involved with Austin Dog Alliance this year and I just love all the work they do. Plus, what's better than helping both dogs and people!?! So I decided to do a Birthday Fundraiser for ADA!
On August 5th, I will host a party with food and drinks and of course birthday cake! Nothing too fancy, a simple dinner, but definitely lots of FUN!! The first 80 people (in the Austin area) to donate $40 or more will get invitations! Of course I would love to see everyone at the party, but you can certainly still donate if you can't make it to the party...and I and everyone ADA helps will be eternally grateful.
Just a little of the work that Austin Dog Alliance does:
Therapy Dog Teams- Roo and I are a certified therapy dog team and do Bow Wow Reading at local libraries. Therapy teams also work in schools, hospitals, nursing homes, courthouses, and mental health facilities.
Service Dog Training- ADA adopts dogs from shelters who show promise as service dogs, then spent a year or more training them to be service dogs. This costs between $15,000 and $20,000 and most of the veterans who get these service dogs are able to pay little or nothing toward their training. ADA also has a program to help people train their own service dogs.
S+CORE! is a program that provides dog related employment training and job placement for teenagers and young adults, who have learning disabilities, autism or other issues that would make finding a job difficult without training and mentoring.
