BENEFITING: Economic Mobility Pathways (EMPath)
EVENT DATE: Jun 18, 2016
Thank you so much for your interest in my “climb for a cause.” My birthday custom every ~5 years has been to celebrate with a physical challenge and a fundraiser. For my 45th, I've decided to hike the Inca trail to Macchu Picchu in June. While less intense than my Kilimanjaro climb for my 40th, this four-day Peruvian trek is still nearly 14,000 feet above sea level, and includes more than 1,500 steps!
In 2012 I joined the board of a remarkable organization on the cusp of great change. Over the past decade Crittenton Women’s Union has evolved into a proven poverty disruptor. Our highly acclaimed, innovative programs inspire women to chart unique pathways out of poverty. We work with 1,400 people directly in Boston and our tools are used with more than 250,000 through our 50 national and international partner organizations. A recent ROI study conducted by Brandeis University shows that graduates of CWU’s most intensive program, earned 72% more, reduced their dependence on subsidies by 20%, and paid 120% more taxes. Thus than a year after graduation, participant’s program costs were offset by gains to society.
Please help me achieve my audacious birthday goal of raising $25,000 to disrupt poverty by giving thousands of women and their families the tools and coaching they need to become economically independent. Every dollar helps!
