Zumis-for-Nepal REMINDER:

We hope you will be able to join us THIS THURSDAY, July 9th, at 5:30-8:00pm, at 10 Estes Street – EBSCO’s Riverside Conference. Details about the program are at www.zumisfornepal.wordpress.com

The program is shaping up to be very exciting!

Our keynote presenter, high-ranking Oxfam director for global humanitarian response, will address some of the recent media about accountability in disaster relief work, as well as current situation in Nepal.

Then, several local community members who are currently involved directly with work in Nepal in various capacities will support group discussions by category:
long-term rebuilding projects;
impact on health care and mental health;
impact on youth, marginalized and at-risk populations;
and the role of Nepali diaspora.

Several of these people have recently returned from Nepal and will be going back soon to continue their work - We are very lucky that they have come forward in connecting our community here in such an immediate way with the current recovery work taking place throughout Nepal.

We hope to see you there - Please feel free to invite others as well! Thank you for your support!

Warmly and with gratitude,
Umesh and Zillie Bhuju

Dear friends of “Zumi’s for …
Dear friends of “Zumi’s for Nepal”,

We feel humbled by the overwhelming support shown by our community toward relief efforts for earthquake victims in Nepal.

Today we woke to the shocking news of the 7.3 magnitude earthquake that shook Nepal once again on Tuesday, May 12. We can only imagine the devastation and fear as tremors take down structures that had been damaged by the first quake, and set off landslides that could further isolate many villages.

By all reports we have followed, relief workers were quite shaken at first, and then got right back to work. They are already there to respond to immediate crisis. They are there with the backing of supporters like you. Please know that you have already made a difference, and on behalf of the thousands of people impacted in Nepal, we will always be grateful.

The journey ahead is long, but the immediate path is still one of crisis-response. We hope you might take a moment to share our current fundraising page with anyone in your circle who may not have seen it yet. We are very close to reaching our final goal on www.crowdrise.com/zumisfornepal .

Thank you again for your support. It is not taken for granted.

P.S. We have heard from our immediate family today and they are shaken, but safe.

Thank you for your support. …
Thank you for your support. You are helping in the best way we know of at this time. The heartfelt concern of so many people reaching out to us is both humbling and uplifting. This experience is overwhelming, and we really can not express in words the devastation we hear in the voices of our family and friends in Nepal. There is a deep impact on many Nepalese who are living here in this country as well.

Your support is not taken for granted - We are grateful for every prayer, every dollar, every “share” - on behalf of all those affected by this catastrophe.

This immediate relief is critical, and is our primary focus right now. But we are already researching a “phase two” plan to support rebuilding efforts, as well as help established organizations that service the most vulnerable and marginalized populations, whose human rights are often at risk in the midst of chaotic catastrophes. We hope to develop some sort of collaboration with local Nepalese communities toward this end. We will keep you posted.

Love & Peace,
the Bhuju Family
