EVENT DATE: Mar 24, 2012
Helekunihi Cultural Foundation
The Helekunihi Cultural Foundation (HCF) was founded in 2001 and incorporated in 2007, with the mission: To engage in the propagation of Hawaiian native plants for reforestation, restore water systems, preserve ancestral archaeological sites and continue Hawaiian tradition values with spiritual connections to all natural resources.
HCF holds a lease over a 119 acre property in southeastern Maui. Our goal is to begin transform the Helekunihi property for two primary reasons: To identify successful methods for re-establishing native plant communities in Southeastern Maui, which will not only have positive ecological benefits for nativeplants and animals on the Helekunihi site, but will also serve as a demonstration project for expanding restoration activities throughout the
region to develop materials to educate people about native plant and their traditional uses by Native Hawaiians.
With your support in participating in the 2nd Annual Valley to the Sea Half Marathon or 10k/5k, you willhelp us re-establish native Hawaiian plants on Maui.
