BENEFITING: Iqra Fund
EVENT DATE: May 21, 2016
Since I'm running the Brooklyn Half on May 21, and having a birthday soon after, I thought I'd make the most of both to ask for your support to help me make a difference in the lives of girls in Pakistan. Please help me support this amazing organization, the Iqra Fund.
I recently met Genevieve Walsh and a group of Iqra Fund volunteers in NYC, and have come to learn that this is a very well-run and effective organization that is making a real difference in the lives of girls, their families, and their communities in a remote and neglected part of Pakistan.
Iqra Fund only works with communities that have invited them in and are in desperate need of schools. They train teachers and equip classrooms. They don't build physical schools but rather take over abandoned ones and make them operational. $3,750 will send an entire classroom of 30 girls to primary school for a year ($125 will send one girl to primary school for a year).
Education is a basic human right. Political, religious and economic instability should never prevent a girl from receiving a quality education.
