Sri Lanka Association - Help a Child to Go Back to School
Organized by: Gayanga Opatha
The recent floods in Sri Lanka caused immense harm to families, and ravaged most of their property and personal belongings. You may have seen this disaster in videos on Internet and/or Newscasts on TV. People are still trying to rebuild their lives. People received immediate assistance thanks to government, many charitable organizations and private individuals. Private organizations and charities are still helping them. The poor have suffered the most.
The Sri Lanka-Canada Association of Calgary is working with “SOS Children’s Villages” (www.soschildrensvillages.lk) to help children with books and other material necessary for their schooling. This is a noble deed.
Below is a list of materials that SOS CV is collecting to put in a school pack.
1 School Bag , 1 Pencil, 10 Exercise Books, 1 Pencil Sharpener, 1 Mathematical Box, 1 Eraser, 3 Pens, 1 Ruler
Based on SOS estimate the above pack will cost US $9 (C$12). Our target is to collect money for 500 School packs (C$6,000) through the generosity of our members and friends.
Donors may give any amount they could afford. Even $6 would go a long way; two donors contributing $6 each, would buy 1 School Pack. $60 contribution would buy 5 School Packs, C$120 buy 10 packs and so on.
We sincerely appeal you, each and every member, to contribute to this good cause and help children in Sri Lanka, who are very much in need right now just to go to school and receive basic education. Also, please talk to your friends and colleagues at work about this plight in Sri Lanka. Canadians in general are very compassionate folks.
Thank you very much for your generosity.
