Please help our dear friends! Romi, Iggy and Martin have lost all of their worldly possessions in a terrible house fire! Luckily, there are no injuries but their rental house was severely damaged by flames and smoke and so far nothing has been recovered. Our kind, generous Chilean friends desperately need our help! Romi Branje and Ignacio and Martin Gomez have been cherished friends of Truckee since 1999. They came to the United States to start a life of promise and success. After becoming United States citizens in 2008, Ignacio started his own cleaning business. Romina played a huge part in helping the grass roots, local Children’s Museum, The KidZone, become nationally recognized by creating a renowned Outreach program. In 2010, Romina was diagnosed with thyroid cancer. Happily, Romi recovered from this ordeal within a year. Incredibly, she was diagnosed with ovarian cancer just 2 short years later. This fight was a bit longer and more complicated. No one handled these tribulations with more dignity and grace than this family. In spite of losing the cleaning business to the faltering economy, Ignacio was able to support his wife throughout her treatments. Sadly, they lost their home in the process. The family decided to try their luck in Reno. They rented a house and made a go. Martin stayed in his Boy Scout troop in Truckee, becoming the Senior Patrol Leader. A few weeks ago, their rental house caught fire and was extremely damaged along with virtually everything they own. Not having renter’s insurance, Iggy, Romi and Martin are left with practically nothing. They are currently couch surfing. They would like to try to move back to Truckee but are also contemplating making a move to the Midwest where the cost of living is much more affordable. The Branje/Gomez’s have endeared their friends and family with their generous nature for many years. They need our help. Please consider a donation, however small, to these dearest of people. Help them to get back on their feet and begin again, the life that they so deserve. Thank you.
