Many of you know I was diagnosed with Sarcoidosis six years ago and it has since damaged my lungs, kidney, and liver. It also promotes early onset arthritis. Wow, no fun! Sarcoidosis is a long-term disorder that affects many parts of the body, mostly the lungs. About 5 in 100,000 people may get this disease. In a small number of patients, the disease involves some part of the nervous system. This is called neurosarcoidosis. The spinal cord is another part of the nervous system that sarcoid has affected me. I have weakness, pain, and nueropathy in my arms and legs, and sometimes difficulty walking. The condition can also affect the parts of the brain involved in regulating many body functions, such as temperature and sleep.. Some more fun!
So this is me... but, I am so much more fortunate than a lot of people who do not have adequate health care. I have good doctors and insurance that allow me the treatment I need for this chronic illness.
I am going to try and travel to Chicago at the end of April to participate in a patient conference, some appointments of my own, and a 5K walk to raise awareness for this disease. Want to help me reach my goal? Any little bit helps!
