Help Bring Free Storytelling Workshops for the Youth to Life
Organized by: Jocelyn Beam
Story Troupers offers free storytelling and storytelling workshops to southeastern North Carolina youth and was inspired by a “Directed Individual Study” course taken while I was an undergraduate student at the University of North Carolina – Wilmington. The program has received interest from local youth non-profit organizations but requires seed money to launch a program dynamic enough to satisfy that potential. Funding projects include all aspects of the business, from office supplies and transportation costs to website development and resource acquisition. Storytelling benefits the speaker and the listener through improved literacy, listening, and public speaking skills as well as building confidence, inspiring creativity and expanding imagination. This program would be offered to youth that may not have access to out of school enrichment opportunities; Story Troupers provides a platform for their voices to be heard as they begin to craft and nurture their own stories. Story Troupers is a means for unlocking the potential of the young and talented in our community, who may not have access to any other creative outlets. Your financial assistance will provide a platform for those voices to be heard.
