Brooklyn Outdoor's Fundraiser:

Support Enough SAID!

THE STORY:

In 2009, more than 11,000 unopened, untested rape kits were found in a Detroit Police Department storage unit. These kits represent thousands of unprosecuted sexual assaults, and potentially thousands of sex offenders still on the streets of Detroit and its suburbs. They also represent thousands of victims who have essentially been told that their lives are not important, and that they do not deserve justice.

It has come to light that southeast Michigan is by no means alone in this problem. At present, there are more than 400,000 kits that have been identified across the nation. The presumption is that there are many more.Testing the kits, investigating the crimes and bringing the perpetrators to trial will require millions of dollars. But to leave the kits unopened and the offenders free is unthinkable. And so, the Enough SAID project was born from Michigan Women's Foundation, the Wayne County Prosecutor's Office, and the Detroit Crime Commission.

For Karen Kantzler, imprisoned for 30yrs, decades overdue for release. Use the near $70,000 a year that it costs to keep this 70yr old harmless woman in prison for your rape kits. #TheMoneyIsInMichigan 12 months ago
