Buenos días! I am a volunteer for Asociación Ser-Tacna in Tacna, Peru, which provides animal assisted therapy to children with disabilities and behavorial problems.
The children that we see are autistic, blind, are unable to walk without assistance, cannot speak at all. We aim to provide a warm, caring environment to support their growth and development.
We have two special helpers, Porthos and Caralampio, who aid us during therapy. Who are they? Ponies!
Porthos and Caralampio have additional needs, which we are struggling to meet. There is no easy access to a pasture for exercise and grazing time for these two hard-working members of our team. At the moment we walk Porthos and Caralampio along a busy road to a local park. Cars honk as they pass, the local dogs rush up to inspect and bark at the ponies as we pass. It's incredibly stressful for the ponies, who just want a peaceful walk to their park.
Lety and Maury, the husband-wife dream team who run Asociación Ser-Tacna, have recently struck a deal with the park. We may be able to move the association to the park grounds! Caralampio, Porthos, and the children would be able to enjoy a much larger, more peaceful space if this happens!
How can we make this happen? Lety and Maury are hoping to raise the funds to purchase concrete and other building materials to move the association. But money is extremely tight. We see 50 children a week, at 30 soles/session (roughly $10 USD). After paying the overhead to keep the organization running and the ponies (and humans!) fed, there is little wiggle room to consider this move.
That's why we need your help! A donation of even $5 could go so far. Any amount (or positive thoughts!) would be much appreciated.
