BENEFITING: ALLIANCE FOR CALIFORNIA TRADITIONAL ARTS
From Native American Ohlone basketry and African-American quilt-making to cowboy poetry and Vietnamese opera, California is home to thousands of traditional and folk artists. These culture bearers and their traditional art forms have helped make California a complex and resilient place filled with great beauty and hope.
Since 1999, the Alliance for California Traditional Arts’ Apprenticeship Program has supported California’s cultural traditions with hundreds of contracts to outstanding folk and traditional artists and practitioners, most of whom are immigrants or their descendants. We encourage the continuity of the state’s living cultural heritage by contracting exemplary master artists to offer intensive training and mentorship to qualified and committed apprentices.
Our goal is to raise $8,000 to support two master/apprenticeship pairs and the required program expenses. Would you kindly consider making a gift—even a few dollars? Many people giving small amounts of money can make a huge difference in keeping our diverse cultural traditions thriving in California.
Please donate to the ACTA Apprenticeship Program, and provide each master and apprentice a gift of time together, to pass on life experiences, values, and the beauty of a learned art. Make your donation to ACTA online or send a check to our office, located at 744 P Street #307, Fresno, CA 93721.
Thank you so much for your support and generosity.
