Help Darcy Release The Darkness
Organized by: Sarah Miller
Darcy has been a close friend of mine for nearly six years now. When we met her eye sight was still in tact and she could see. Due to a degenerative condition she suffers from little by little over the years all the beautiful colors faded from her world ... and today she sits terrified in almost total darkness all the time. Her husband Matthew had to quit his job to care for her full time. He struggles along side her as she struggles to navigate her way through a world that's gone completely dark. Due to the loss of not just her income but her husband's as well they were forced to sell thier home where at least she was familiar enough with the floor plan to find the restroom on her own to brush her teeth or shower. Currently the two of them are struggling desperately to find a rental while moving from hotel to hotel. Without a solid income to speak of they are having a difficult time finding a landlord willing to chance thier signatures on a rental agreement. Meanwhile Darcy feels imprisoned in the darkness that surrounds her. Unable to select her own clothing to wear as most of what they own is locked away in storage. The frustration of tasks she went through most of her life never thinking twice about drive her to tears ... Making the bed.. brewing a morning pot of coffee... selecting an outfit for the day... applying her make up.... these are all things Matthew has had to learn to do for her. Leading Darcy to feel helpless and as if she is only a burden on the people she loves. Her husband is exhausted and frustrated himself.. his love for her is endless and overflowing but the low self esteem and frequent tears that appear on a woman he's known to be strong confident and independent breaks his heart. Darcy longs to attend a school for the blind and learn to navigate her way through the world she lives inside of today. She longs for the finances to hire outside assistance so her husband can return to work with out the fears that plague him every moment he's not at her side making sure she has what she needs. Today I am helping Darcy file her paperwork for disability. Today we will research any and all assistance available thamz opt could possibly help my friends get back on thier feet.
