THE STORY:

Denver YouthBuild students are building a tiny home for a nonprofit of their choice

...and we need your help! We hope to raise $7,000 by December 1st to purchase building materials that will make this project a success.

The purpose of the tiny home is threefold:

  1. Teach real-world job skills
Community build projects are an important aspect of our instruction as it’s where students apply their construction skills such as framing, roofing, and window/door installation in a manner outside of the classroom. We are excited that the tiny home project presents students with additional opportunities to engage in building design, budgeting, project management, and material selection.

  2. Recruit new students
Denver YouthBuild is always recruiting and the tiny home will increase the impact of our efforts at community events.  A potential student looking at the tiny home will see a clear and powerful example of that they will be capable of if they enroll in Denver YouthBuild.

  3. Serve our community
The tiny house will ultimately benefit more than just our students. Denver YouthBuild students will be expected to engage the larger Denver Community to identify the final use for the tiny home.  We have built tiny homes in the past and one of our project houses is currently being used as a mobile classroom by a local high school. Other YouthBuild programs across the country have built tiny homes now used to combat homelessness in their communities.  Once the final use is determined, the interior will be completed accordingly.

What is Denver YouthBuild?

Denver YouthBuild is a program for young men and women ages 16 to 24 who have become disengaged from traditional high school. Over the course of a year, students spend half-days in academic classes earning a GED or high school diploma and half-days learning career skills centered around construction that are easily adaptable to a number of fields.  Denver YouthBuild puts young adults back on a path that will allow them to successfully enter the workforce and/or higher education upon graduation.
