HELP DISABLED PEOPLE IN LATVIA!!!
Organized by: Ieva Unda
Name of Organization – MOTUS VITA EST (Latin: Emotional Life). Organization has all necessary documents, filled with state of Georgia in the United States of America, the Internal Revenue Service and a Bank Account in the United States of America. The Organization’s History and My Reasons for Getting Involved About 5 years ago I went to visit Latvia (where I am originally from) and saw, how many old, disabled, retired people and kids with disabilities who have endured doctor’s mistakes and failed surgeries - need help. Specifically – they need: wheelchairs, walking canes, special seats, special equipment for bathrooms, rollator walkers, bedside commodes and similar equipment. Unfortunately, the Latvian government is not able to support these people. There are no properly functioning discounts for similar equipment in Latvia. The situation is a bit better in Riga, the capital of Latvia, but things are radically worse just 50 miles away from Riga. After I came back to US, I decided to help at least some of these people; I bought some necessary equipment and sent it to Latvia. I don’t have enough words to explain how happy and excited these people were, when they received what they were waiting for and dreaming about for many, many years. For some it took five years to get what they needed, for others ten years, and for some others even more…They couldn’t believe at first that they dreams came truth! Finally God heard them and send help they way. One young man (before receiving help from me) had even stopped believing that he would be able to using a wheelchair to go outside and see the sun and smell the fresh air, because for last 7 years his world was a small room in one bedroom apartment on the fifth floor. In another case, finally parents could take their daughter outside for walks in a wheelchair! Finally a 76 year old retired lady, using a rollator walker, could go to the grocery store to buy the food that she needs. She does not have to wait for days, or even weeks if one of her neighbors would remember her and knock on her door, asking if she needs something… And there are many more stories like these… After all this equipment was delivered, I visited Latvia again. I was so excited to see how happy these people were. Many came to me and told “Thank You”. These was the best and honest “Thank You’s” what I have ever heard. At that moment I felt great, and with that great feeling I flew back to the USA. I would like to help more, because with every day more and more people need help. Somebody gets older, somebody endures a doctor’s mistakes, somebody gets in a terrible car accident…and the list goes on! But unfortunately I don’t have so much money what I can spend for this equipment. But at the same time, I would like to help people who need it, and I know that they need help and they are waiting. Every second, every minute, every hour, every day counts! And this is the reason why I decided to start an organization, which will collect money from the organizations, private persons all over the world to help the disabled people and their families in Latvia. People with disabilities in Latvia are in need for wheelchairs, bedside commodes, rollator walkers, cane seats, special equipment for bathrooms and toilets, automatic bathtub lift chairs, medical beds and similar equipment. Right now – July 8, 2016 I have list of 47 people, - who are waiting…and the list is getting longer with every day! Difference between this and other organizations is that – I have a list of real people with names, addresses, phone numbers, and disability levels and necessary equipment. You don’t donate to some mystic person nowhere, but to REAL PEOPLE!!! I decided not to make a website, at least for right now, because many of these people in need don’t want to be seen on the internet, and that’s understandable. But at the same time, if somebody is interested to donate money to a particular person, I will be glad to provide all necessary information about the person, who needs help. This is how this organization works: volunteers in Latvia talk with people, go to people’s houses and make sure that equipment is indeed necessary and it will not be for sale or rent. And then they send the list to me. I don’t rent any office here in the USA, because I believe that all money that is collected, should go to help people, but not for office rent, computers, electric bills and similar expenses. And the end of each year you will receive Tax deductible documents. TESTIMONIALS I am writing to share my experience and thoughts. I am person with insulin – dependent diabetes and cerebral palsy.
