Help Families Devastated by Sri Lankan Floods
Organized by: abidal nefiul
Upul, his wife, and their 6 yr old son lived about 3km away from the Kelaniya River in Dompe, Sri Lanka, when the monsoon rains flooded his neighborhood and surrounding area. Those who live around the Kelaniya River continue to be threatened as heavy rains and winds are not expected to cease in the next few days. While Upul and his immediate family are safe and sound for the moment, they have lost everything. Upul's wife had recently started growing edible mushrooms to sell to local stores in the hopes of making ends meet. They were living in their own small house which Upul had built. While their home is completely submerged in water and most likely damaged beyond repair, their small mushroom cultivation, and all of their belongings are completely destroyed. They only have the clothes on their backs and are in complete shock. This is one of the many many many stories of devastation and loss coming out of Sri Lanka right now. If you are looking to donate or help out in any way, please help. Even the smallest donation - especially made by those in the West - will go a very long way for Upul and his family. Our donations will, at a minimum, determine whether they will have food and shelter in the short-term. If we manage to meet our goal, we may even be able to help him slowly rebuild his life in the longer-term once the storms pass and the flood waters recede. Even a couple of dollars will help pay for meals for his family for a day. 100% of your donations will go to Upul directly. Thank you!
