Help fix Emily's broken heart
Organized by: Nuray Elrabaa
Before baby Emily Marie Cepkauskas was even been born, she was racking up medical expenses. At just 20 weeks gestation, she was diagnosed with Atrioventricular (AV) canal defect. AV Canal defect is a large hole in the center of the heart. It's located where the wall between the upper chambers joins the wall between the lower chambers. As a result, Emily will require open heart surgery within her first couple months of life. She has an AMAZING cardiologist that her parents, Marcus & Laurie, have the greatest of confidence in. They were just getting used to understanding how things will work when she is born, what kind of care she will need and what to expect during the time between her birth and surgery, until they received more news ... AV Canal defect is very common in individuals with Down Syndrome, and testing has confirmed that Emilly has it as well. The severity of her disorder, as well as the type, is still unknown ... test results pending ... Emily's heart surgery alone will generate HUGE medical bills ... not to mention any after care she will need ... as well as any care for her Down Syndrome. As Emily's aunts, we want to help raise funds for her surgery and care. She DOES have medical insurance, but that only goes so far ... and her expenses will most definitely exceed that ... There will also be household expenses to cover, as Laurie's leave from work is not paid. Marcus is self employed, but again if he is off work, money is not being made. These funds will also be used to make sure Emily and her family continue to have a safe and warm home.
