BENEFITING: Cannon Beach Arts Association Incorporated
EVENT DATE: Jul 01, 2017
Our nonprofit gallery has been serving artists and art lovers on the North Coast of Oregon for 30 years and we are need of some major repairs. First, let me tell you a little bit about us. We are a 501(c)3 nonprofit in Cannon Beach. Our gallery is primarily run by over 20 volunteers and we are supported by over 150 members.
We host monthly exhibits of local art work and manage a retail space for local jewelry makers, authors, and print makers. We offer a summer art camp that serves local children, teens, and adults. We host weekly workshops in collaboration with other local nonprofits. Finally, we provide high school scholarships and artist grants to support the next generation of artists.
Now on to the fun stuff! We have a lot of annual wear and tear from the 10,000+ people that come through our doors annually (we're right next to Haystack Rock!) and we do a great job of taking care of the beautiful building that has been our home since 1991. But as many of you may or may not know, it occasionally gets windy on the Oregon coast. This year we had a particularly blustery day and our sign blew down. We've also been experiencing a continuous window leak that needs expert attention. Finally, if you can believe it, we had two days in a row of 100 degree F. In June. No joke. And because of large windows without an air conditioner the gallery gets pretty hot and humid between May and September, not a great environment for the art.
Our air conditioner is going to cost $5000 to repair, so our land lord won't be able to do this for us. We will need to purchase a small portable unit for the summer months. Which means that we need: $1500 for the sign $2500 for the windows $500 for the air conditioner (to purchase a small, portable, replacement) BUT!
One of our dearest supporters recently passed away and gave us a donation that will provide $500 towards the sign. We also will be receiving a donation of lumber and labor to construct and install the sign which will bring the total needed for the sign down to $700. The gallery will also use some of our own revenues to repair the windows, bringing the total project cost down from $4500 to $3500.
We deeply appreciate anything you are able to provide. We are hoping to install the sign in August and fix the windows before the rainy season starts again (in case you're not from here it rains between 5 and 10 feet a year on the Oregon Coast).
Thank you so much for your support at any level!
