BENEFITING: Freedom For Immigrants
Help Sonia Macias raise $3,500 for bond. Sonia languishes at the Santa Ana City Jail in civil immigration detention. The ONLY thing that has kept her for almost a year from being released to her loving family - who she misses so much - is the $3,500 bond.
Last year she spoke up bravely as part of a complaint on unlawful strip searches at the Santa Ana City Jail. The complaint was filed by Community Initiatives for Visiting Immigrants in Confinement (CIVIC).
Diagnosed with diabetes and bipolar disorder, she thinks she was transferred from the Adelanto Detention Center, run by the private prison corporation GEO Group, to Santa Ana City Jail in November 2015 due to medical reasons. Yet, almost a year later she is still denied proper medication and regular and appropriate medical follow up.
Sonia says the 2 months she spent in jail a couple of years ago were much easier to endure than the treatment she receives in immigration detention.
Sonia has strong ties to her community. Although born in Mexico, she has lived in the U.S. for many years, raising 3 U.S. citizen children and helping to care for her aging parents. Her father has cancer and they want to be together before he dies. Like so many in immigration detention, Sonia has no attorney.
Please donate to her bond fund so she can be released. Thank you.
