Lee has a van!!!

Thank you to everyone that donated to and shared Lee's fundraising campaign! I am happy to report that, thanks to your generosity, Lee has purchased See More

THE STORY:

Two weeks ago Lee was involved in a car accident and his wheelchair accessible van with ramp was totaled. This has been a huge blow given his reliance on transportation for his career. The ramped van and hand controls allow Lee to quickly and easily get in and out of his vehicle and drive to his appointments, pick his daughter up from school, grocery shop etc.. We are asking for your help to raise enough money to help Lee purchase a wheelchair accessible van- anything you can give is appreciated and will go a long way to help a deserving person--- LEE! For those of you who don’t know Lee allow me to tell you a little bit about him and why he is deserving of your help. We first met Lee in 2004 through Don’t Just Sit There Foundation when he had applied for the scholarship fund for continued recovery therapy. When I spoke with Lee on the phone he had the kindest voice and he told me that in December of 2002 he had been robbed and shot in the back. The bullet shattered his T-12 vertebrae and he had been paralyzed. He had a young daughter and wanted to work on his recovery so that he could take care of her. He was on Medicaid and had no therapy benefits that would cover any type of ongoing, intense treatment. Of course, we awarded him the scholarship and year after year he exemplified our mission. Working all the while in 2010 Lee made the difficult decision to put his recovery on hold in order to pursue a more stable income that would allow him to take care of his daughter full time. In 2011 Lee gained full custody of his daughter and has since helped her to succeed both academically and socially to her full potential. He has been pursuing a career as a real estate agent and works around the clock so that he can provide his daughter with everything she needs. He is frequently seen whizzing in and out of Walk The Line with his briefcase and phone zipping from one appointment to the next. He doesn’t allow inaccessibility to slow him down either- he hops out of his chair to pull himself and then his wheelchair up the steps at his houses so that he can greet his clients inside. It’s a slow process but he has been building his clientele and sales. Since meeting Lee twelve years ago he has become part of our family. He is a smart, caring, loyal and hard working man that puts his daughter and those that he cares for before himself. Despite the challenges that life has handed Lee he always has a positive outlook, a smile on his face and the same kind voice that first greeted me on the phone twelve years ago.
