Water Treatment Business Success!

After three weeks of hard work, and not without a couple of setbacks, our community of Kanjeyili, located in Northern Region, Ghana, about 1  See more

THE STORY:

Currently in northern Ghana, 40% of the population lacks access to clean drinking water. The number one source for water in rural areas is gathered daily from constructions known as “dug-outs,” which are trenches that collect water and are used by livestock and other animals, which of course can result in heavy contamination from fecal matter. I can't imagine living in an area where this would be my only source of water. It would be very difficult just to go about normal activities in life without worrying about the various waterborne diseases that would plague the community that uses that water.

What can we do?

I am an environmental engineer who is very glad to be traveling this June to this region to work with SAHA Global in developing a sustainable solution to this ongoing problem. We will be working together to establish a water treatment business which will act as a potable water dispensary for the village. Our mission is to sell clean, treated water at an extremely affordable price for everyone. It will be owned and operated by local village women who will be trained by field representatives including myself. We will be working in the village for 3 weeks and during that time we will take this project from start to finish. Additionally, we will be responsible for the continued monitoring and quality assurance of the system as it continues to provide clean water for the community.

Your Donation: Your donation will be going 100% toward the raw materials and construction of this system that will serve many individuals in the village, as well as empowering the local women with the knowledge and skills necessary to operate this system. This will lead to a permanent source of clean water for 700-1000 people. Now THAT is a big impact on many lives! I can't wait to see the benefits of this taking shape in the community. Also, SAHA's track record is excellent; 100% of business started since 2008 are still in operation today by local entrepreneurs.

Thank you all for taking the time to read about what is happening, and for your support in this cause! This will help thousands of people get access to the resources they need to survive. Please let me know if you have any questions about the program or my part in this operation, please contact me!
