Help Isay for her Total Knee Replacement
Organized by: Maria Clariza Anero
Hi I am Maria Clariza Anero. My friends call me "ISAY". I am 22 years old and I live in the Philippines. I have Degenerative Osteoarthritis. When I was at the age of 8, I was in and out of hospital because of my swollen left knee. I've undergone many procedures in the hospital and even tried herbal medicine, quack doctors and the like but none of those worked. I stopped my medication because we don't have money for my hospital bills. I endured having swollen knee as I grew up. When I was in college, my situation got worse. I just woke up one day and I can't walk anymore. I was 19 years old that time and 4th year in college. It's hard going to school because of my situation. My schoolmates and professors donated a wheelchair for me. I bought a crutches using my allowance from the government officials. I am an academic full scholar in our school and scholar of government officials because I came from a low income family. I continued studying despite of my situation and luckily I graduated last April 2015 (Bachelor of Secondary Education Major in English) with flying colors (First Honorable Mention and Proficiency in English Awardee). After graduating, I became an Elementary English teacher in a school near our house. It only lasted for 3-4 months because of my health. My parents got mad at me because of my decision to stop working. I was the second breadwinner of the family but I have no choice. It was really hard. Last February 2016 I tried to apply again as a Call Center agent that time. Luckily I passed but it only lasted 'till May 2016 again, because of my health. June 2016, I told my mom that I want to get treated again. We applied as a "social service" patient in St. Luke's Medical Center Quezon City and I passed. I underwent manyyyy procedures until this day. Amidst the discounts we get, we can't still afford it so we usually ended up borrowing money to other people. From the medical procedures I've done, the doctor said that I have a severe case of osteoarthritis. Bone-bone knee, torn meniscus, ACL, ligament, sprain, and other medical terms I don't understand. They told me that I need to undergo TOTAL KNEE REPLACEMENT. They told me that the procedure costs 200,000 pesos (the procedure itself only). (I researched that it's almost 4,300 in USD? Correct me of I'm wrong) That's really an expensive procedure. I hate to ask money to other people but if this is the only chance for me to walk again and work for my family, I'll do it. It's sad that I'm just here laying in my bed and see them suffer. I want to walk and work again to help my family. Thank you in advance for your help.!
