Help Jeff fight the Big "C"
Organized by: Brad Darr
Hi my name is Brad I am writing to appeal for help for my longtime friend and business partner Jeff. This is a story of whatever can go wrong will go wrong. He’s a proud fighter and would not ask for help but, I know that he desperately needs it so I’ll ask on his behalf. I don’t know if this can work but, I’ve prayed for some way to help and this just keeps coming to my mind. So, I would kindly and respectfully ask you to read this story and if you can help in any way I know my friend will be very grateful. If you can’t help financially I would request your prayers for my friend. May God Bless you for your prayers and or your assistance.
Jeff is a 50 year man who is married with 2 beautiful girls. He has been working diligently for the past 4 years to get his upstart business up and running in a fashion that can properly support his family. For those who have their own businesses you will understand that creating such and entity is a tall task. The business is growing steadily, slow but, steady. However, it is not able to support his family in the midst of a medical emergency.
In 2014 Jeff discovered a strange growth on his chest. He shows me this and I'm flabbergasted. I told him "man you have to get that looked at." He says "I have no insurance." So, he delays having it looked at. At some point in early 2015 his wife finds an ad for a free skin cancer screening in the paper. He uses that screening to see a local doctor. She graciously agrees to remove the growth free of charge. A blessing to say the least. The doctor then confirms that it is indeed the Big "C" skin cancer, Melanoma.
Jeff is advised to get further screenings to see if there has been any movement of the cancer. He is finally successful in procuring insurance. So, the doctor prescribes a new treatment that has shown some promise in stopping further growth or travel of the cancer through his body. In the midst of his treatment he gets screened and it's discovered that it has indeed traveled. There is a spot on his spine. He gets a new laser radiation treatment on his spine the results of success or not, have not been discovered yet as it takes time for the treatment to work.
He has been fighting his cancer diligently for the past 8 months. To make matters worse Jeff suffers from Epilepsy. He has not been able to maintain a constant supply of the medicine that he takes to control his seizures. So, in the past few months he’s had seizures that have caused him to Fall in the shower and cut his head open, another one he fell down his stairs, yet another one he fell on his coffee table and broke it. He hurt himself in some way in each episode.
Mind you throughout all of his treatment Jeff has continued to work to support his family. He comes to work when he’s feeling horribly. He doesn’t lie in bed feeling sorry for himself he picks himself up and fights day in and day out.
His household income has not been enough to pay all of his of his bills. He has juggled and stretched and budgeted. But, it he has been thrown one thing after another. At home Jeff takes care of housekeeping, cooking the bills overseeing his daughters. Yes and that’s the way he would want it too
Jeff has 2 cars he has to make payments on. He has refinanced them so they are upside down and therefore he cannot sell either of them. Both cars are in disrepair. One of them is not even in drivable condition. The second car is in need of service and potentially could become undrivable at any time.
Because of the duties that he has he rarely, well never has a chance to just relax, breath and contemplate things. Recently one of his close friends who sees this offered to take him for a boys weekend to the desert to ride 4 wheelers. He was very excited. As luck would have it he went was having a fantastic time relaxing with friends and having no cares at the moment. He and his buddies were riding the dunes when they went off a dune jump and did what they call a lawn dart. Which I guess is where you go nose in and just stop instantly. He injured his back and neck. But, because of everything on his plate he doesn’t get medical attention, although he’s having severe back pain.
Finally here we are a few weeks later he decides that he needs to get it checked and gets approval from his insurance to see a specialist. Of course the appointment is a few weeks out as it works in the health care industry these days. So, yesterday he was supposed to go get a full body scan to check the growth of any cancer and to view his spine for damage from the accident. Then this morning he was to see his oncologist and then an orthopedist.
This morning I asked him why was he at work. He responds sadly, when he got to the doctor for his scan they informed him that his insurance had cancelled the appointment. They cancelled it because he is 2 months late on his insurance. He now has to make 2 months payment right away or he will be out with no way back until the next time that you are allowed to get insurance whenever that is. Insurance today… arrrrgggghhhh.
That’s the nutshell version of my friend Jeff. He is in dire need of a leg up. I have been encouraging him to pray (he’s not a religious person until recently). I’ve prayed for him but, he needs more than prayers. Sometimes it takes human interaction as God doesn’t always answer your prayers when you make them. I’m kindly and respectfully asking you if you can lend a hand. This is a good guy who has been dealt bad hand after bad hand. I am hoping that by the grace of God I can find help here. Jeff runs into more trouble at any corner. His resolve is strong but, he can’t fix this himself. If you can help I know he would be grateful beyond words. You know you see so much bad stuff on the news these days, I am hoping to see some good news here. I am hoping that I can see the love and kindness that I know people have for their fellow humans who need a hand.
If you can help, please do. If you can’t I understand and appreciate that you took the time to read this and would just ask you to pray for Jeff and his family that they might be blessed by those who can help.
