Help keep Blue home
Organized by: Katharina Detjen
Hi, my name is Katharina but my friends call me Kat. I am currently working for a non-profit company as a medical assistant for some of Oregon's most vulnerable population, most of them homeless, youth and there are an increasing amount of refugees . I am attending college to obtain a bachelor's in nursing as I aspire to do so much more for our world! Let me share with you the reason I have started a fundraiser. I rescued my first baby recently, a dog that suffers from anxiety and doesn't fair well when left alone. I rescued him because I loved his gentle spirit and because he needed a home. My significant other Mike, is in and out of the house throughout the day so we thought we could make it work. However, when he is without us longer than 2 hours, his anxiety gets to him and he destroys the house. We have tried so many things to help settle Blue's nerves. Everything from plug in hormones, a $200 kennel, leaving him outside, walking with him for an hour before breakfast, special collars and swaddle baskets. He has escaped the kennel many times (including today when I had to rescue him again, but only this time it was from doggy jail!) He chewed a large portion of wall in our leased apartment (yes, literally ate a wall...) the result of which was that he had to go to the vet and have that wall removed from his tummy. That was a large unexpected bill. I want to keep him with us in his furever home AND more importantly I want to keep him SAFE! My friend can build a kennel that he can't escape, but the cost is $700 to build it. This unexpected $2000 for repairs and the vet bill has depleted my college savings for the upcoming terms and I honestly don't have the money for any thing more at this time. My heart will be broken if I have to give him up but I will have no choice if I don't come up with a way to keep him safe. Please, if you can find it in your heart, anything helps. Thank you so much for your time.
